The only hope they have, is to keep generating headlines with mass killing. The Western media, of course, tend to blame any mass killing on the Syrian government; but keep the headlines alive so there eventually some kind of foreign intervention can be arranged."

Author and historian, Webster Griffin Tarpley

A political analyst says Western countries support mass killings carried out by insurgents in Syria to justify foreign intervention in the Arab nation, Press TV reports.

“The only hope they have, is to keep generating headlines with mass killing. The Western media, of course, tend to blame any mass killing on the Syrian government; but keep the headlines alive so there eventually some kind of foreign intervention can be arranged,” said the Washington-based author and historian Webster Griffin Tarpley.

A grisly video footage recently circulated on the web showing foreign-backed insurgents killing Syrian soldiers execution-style at a checkpoint in the crisis-hit country.

In the footage, which was reportedly filmed at Hamisho checkpoint west of the northwestern city of Saraqeb, the insurgents beat about 10 soldiers before executing them with automatic rifles.

The analyst noted that there is no future for the foreign-sponsored insurgents in Syria and they are only used as “cannon fodder.”

“I do not think there is a future for them except their orders are to keep killing, never compromise, no truces, no pause in the killing and hopefully then they think that they can get some incident that could be used as a pretext for foreign intervention and again it is a strategy of acute weakness,” Tarpley said.

“It would be interesting to see account of the casualty specifically of the rebel groups because they are being subjected to rather a large attrition. Of course, the NATO powers do not care about this. This is simply cannon fodder,” he added.

Syria has been the scene of unrest since March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.
