A senior Iranian commander has warned Qatar against the ramifications of getting involved in the US’s and al-Qaeda’s conspiracy to destabilize Syria.

Chairman of Iran's Armed Forces Chiefs of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi warned on Friday that the US, in collaboration with the sponsors of al-Qaeda, is planning to provoke a fresh series of conflicts in Syria.

General Firouzabadi alluded to the plots planned against Syria and said, “I advise our Muslim and friendly neighbor state, Qatar, not to further jeopardize its security by being lured into the Americans’ trap.”

“Muslims should unite and assist each other to cut the hands of the US from the Islamic countries, not to be in cahoots with the White House,” he noted.

In late October, al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri called for support for the foreign-backed insurgents in Syria to topple the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Syria has been the scene of unrest since March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.

Firouzabadi stated that although the US government is facing the after-effects of hurricane Sandy and the necessity of addressing the situation of people hurt by the storm, it is seeking to hatch new plots in Syria.

Hurricane Sandy, the most devastating storm to hit the United States in decades, has killed at least 50 people in the country.

At least 17 states have suffered severe damages from the storm. The estimated property and business losses have been put at USD 20 billion and USD 10-30 billion respectively, making it one of the costliest natural disasters on record in America, according to the IHS Global Insight, a forecasting firm.

“It is strange that the US is still planning another plot for Syria in such a rough situation,” the Iranian commander added.
