December 21 2012 – The Prophecies Revealed !

December 21 2012 – The Prophecies Revealed !

Doom is at hand. on this, Mayan apocalypse believers agree. From there, things get a bit messy. Exotic blends of astrology, interpretations of the legends of many other cultures and even enlightened insights by modern day prophets have produced a variety of dramatic and calamitous events to be pinned on the expiry of the Mayan Long Count calendar.

Galactic PinBall

The Prophecy : Some believe that the Mayan “Day Zero” coincides with an astrologically significant date in a 26,000 year cycle (which is divided into the 12 signs of the Zodiac). The day marks a point when the Earth and the Sun are in perfect alignment with the black hole at the Milky Way’s galactic core. This alignment is supposed to unleash mysterious forces that will throw our solar system out of alignment and trigger explosive Sun storms, causing Earth’s magnetic field to reverse – with much death and mayhem as a result.

Skeptic : The Mayans showed very little interest in the Milky Way, referring to it only once or twice as a “sky road”. NASA says they had no way to know where the galactic centre was, or even that there was a galaxy that needed a centre. Besides that, there is no special alignment in December and we have already survived many more dramatic planetary and interstellar alignments. The Earth’s poles have reversed before without causing any harm. But this is not due to occur for another few millennia.

NiBiru & Planet X

The Prophecy : Also known as “Planet X”, or “433 Eros”, Nibiru is supposed to be a wandering planet or asteroid that the Mayans had charted – plotting its course in such detail as to reveal its collision with Earth in December this year. Note that in old drawings and official books from school (!) Planet X was also a planet in our Solar System untill “they” removed it from all books in the 1970′s.

Skeptic : The story of Nibiru is actually derived from ancient Sumerian and Babylonian myths that have somehow been grafted on to the Mayans. It may have something to do with the original Nibiru “Day Zero” date – May 2003 – having already passed without incident. NASA points out that such a planet would have been noticeable to astronomers for at least a decade, and would by now be well and truly visible to the naked eye. Unlike Planet X or Nibiru, 433 Eros is a real asteroid. It had a close pass to Earth in January this year. Prophecies that it would hit proved unfounded.

Harmonic Convergence

The Prophecy : The cosmic alignments calculated by the Mayans and others will bring humanity to a state of spiritual ascendance and enlightenment – the pinnacle of The Age of
Aquarius. The Earth’s energy will shift from a “warlike” state to “peaceful”.

Skeptic : Given how notoriously difficult it is to measure or observe matters spiritual, this may happen – and nobody will notice.

The Return of the Gods

The Prophecy : The (angry) god(s) will return to Earth, bringing havoc and judgment to all. This element has been linked to most religious apocalyptic visions, including the Bible’s Revelations. But the interpretation closest to Mayan legend involves the “undoing” of their creation myth. A stela at Quirigua in Guatemala has reference to the completion of an earlier 13th b’ak’tun which resulted in the creation of the Mayan world and the current cycle of time. The tablet refers to the descent of deities which build three supporting stones for the heavens, allowing the sky to form and the Sun to rise. The end of the 13th b’ak’tun is supposed to bring war and devastation to this cycle of creation.

Skeptic : This interpretation may be somewhat closer to what the Mayans thought may happen. Inscriptions on a 1300 year-old tablet found at Tortugero, Mexico, describes the return of Bolon Yokte K’Uh, a god (or gods) associated with creation and war. There have been many different interpretations of this and associated Mayan myths, from cosmic analogy through to literal truth. But archaeologists are not even certain the events as outlined by the tablet are apocalyptic. It may simply be talking about events happening to the god.

There is only on problem with all of this : The Maya’s were smart people … they build this “long count calendar” for something … but nobody know why …
