Syrian Army Kills Notorious Terrorist Commander in Reef Damascus

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army killed a notorious commander of a terrorist group in Reef (outskirts of) Damascus on Sunday.

The army killed commander of the Ahfad al-Rassoul brigade terrorist group, Abu Ali, near Darya town in Southern Damascus, the Arabic service of the Russia Today satellite television channel reported on Sunday.

In a statement issued today, Ahfad al-Rassoul confirmed Abu Ali's death after a Syrian army rocket completely destroyed his hideout.

In September, the terrorist group had claimed responsibility for twin bomb blasts near the offices of the Syrian military's joint chief of staff in Damascus.

The blasts had rocked al-Mahdi Street near the offices of the military joint chief of staff in Abu Rommaneh neighborhood in Damascus, injuring 4 people.

The Ahfad al-Rasoul had also kidnapped the reporters of Syria's Arab-language al-Akhbariya television, and killed one of the reporters before army began its operations to rescue the abductees.

The Syrian army has been in war with terrorists and armed rebels who are supported by the western countries, Turkey and some Arab states, specially Qatar and Saudi Arabia, for about two years now.

Doha and Riyadh financially support the armed rebels and supply the terrorists with different kinds of weapons through Turkish soil.

Terrorists have tried hard in the last few months to make Syrian cities unsafe, specially for citizens, but the army has purged them from most neighborhoods and districts, killed hundreds of them and arrested many more.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

In October 2011, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies are seeking hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of increasing unrests in Syria.

Opposition activists who several months ago said the rebels were running out of ammunition said in May that the flow of weapons - most bought on the black market in neighboring countries or from elements of the Syrian military in the past - has significantly increased after a decision by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Persian Gulf states to provide millions of dollars in funding each month.
