No peace for Palestine with Netanyahu in power: Analyst

A political analyst says the Israeli regime will have no intention of showing peace towards Palestinians under the incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Press TV reports.

“We will have stalemate regarding the Palestinian issue because Netanyahu never intended and it is not of his intention to agree to the Palestinian state at all. As we can see from his action, from time to time he allows settlements to be built and he said one time, he stated, that there will never be a Palestinian state between Jordan and the [Mediterranean] sea,” Jafar Hadi Hassan said in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday.

He further pointed out that Netanyahu will shift the focus away from the Palestinian issue after his victory in the Israeli general election.

Exit polls showed earlier today that incumbent Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's hard-line Likud-Beitenu bloc and their allies have won a narrow majority in the Israeli general election.

However, Netanyahu's Likud Party-Yisrael Beitenu and nationalist allies performed far worse than expected in Tuesday’s election and lost ground to center-left parties.

“We will see also a stalemate in the negotiations… I mean mainly there will be issues related only to the domestic conditions like, for example, the economic ones, the social ones, the financial ones, the housing and so on and the Palestinian case or the Palestinian issue will be pushed aside,” Hassan noted.

He went on to say that for the next four years the Israeli prime minister will have no interest in peace or negotiation.

“I mean from all these signs we will have an idea that Netanyahu is not interested in peace at all. He will leave the situation as it is for the next four years,” the analyst concluded.
