One of the effects of European nation's austerity cuts will be a rise in murders and disease rates, revealed a study published in the American Journal of Public Health.
The research, carried out by Aristotle University has found that Greece's economy collapse had acted, as a boost for suicide and murder cases. It was found that the number of suicide and murder cases as well malarial outbreaks and West Nile virus cases increased from 2007 and 2009.
Lead researcher Elias Kondilis talked about the causing agent of the same and named collapse of Greece's economy into recession. Greece's once healthy economy plunged into recession and further the global economic crisis took place in 2007.
Both the activities led to a rise in the percentage of unemployment that is from 7.2% in 2008 to 22.6% in 2012. "We were expecting that these austerity policies would negatively affect health services and health outcomes, but the results were much worse than we imagined", said Kondilis.
Study findings have revealed one of the important facts that the authorities concerned did not take preventive measures to tackle the situation. It seems that concerns need to be addressed so that timely solution to the problem can be taken out.
