Lebanon’s Hezbollah reiterates support for Syrian government

It's the 13th anniversary of Lebanon's liberation from years of Israeli occupation. The leader of the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah says Syria's war against what he called a U-S plot is a war of resistance to protect Lebanon, Syria as well as Palestine. Press TV’s Mariam Saleh reports from Beirut.

Head of Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah says the Lebanese resistance movement will continue to support the Syrian government against U-S-backed extremism.

During a celebration to mark the 13th anniversary of the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Lebanon, the leader of the resistance also gave clear reasons as to why Hezbollah is fighting alongside the Syrian Army in the battle of Qusayr. Nasrallah considered Hezbollah’s contribution as an action to protect Lebanon and Syria with their various sects. 

The venue of the event was filled with loud cheers when Sayyed Nasrallah promised a victory against extremists like the victories of 2000 and 2006 against Israel. 

Observers say it was through years of resistance that Hezbollah’s war of attrition against Israeli occupiers at the end of the 20th century paid off: 

Today’s Rally to mark the 13th anniversary of Lebanon’s liberation from Israeli occupation comes in light of growing challenges and threats against Lebanon and Hezbollah. In addition to Israel Hezbollah now has to face extremist groups which are clearly becoming part of the anti-resistance bloc and are being supported by the US and Israel.
