BEIRUT: Several rockets and shells from the Syrian side of the border struck parts of north Lebanon over the weekend leading to material damage but no casualties.
In Akkar, rockets fell on Hiker Janine, Janine, Al-Arama and Qishliq late Saturday, raising tension in the border areas. Gunfire from the Syria side of the border also hit the Abboudieh-Menjez highway.
Shells from the Syrian side also hit Ammar Bikat, sparking fires in an area known as Hurj al-Joudou. The flames spread quickly to plants and trees.
Civil Defense units worked throughout the night to prevent the fires reaching residential areas.
