According to military analysts, fierce fighting is expected to erupt in Northwestern city of Aleppo.
Aleppo was overrun by rebels last summer, and remains one of the country's bloodiest battlegrounds as rebels and army forces fight over it.
The Syrian troops have earlier driven out foreign-backed militants from Aleppo as part of their clearing operations in the country, Alalam reported.
The advancements came as the Syrian government forces completely flushed out militants from the towns of Aziza and Tall Assan, located near Aleppo.
The army said it also discovered tunnels dug by the militants in Aziza, and secured a strategic bridge that links several towns in the Aleppo countryside.
