NATO welcomes US statement on Syria chemical use

SG of NATO Rasmussen said, he welcomes the clear US statement of Assad regime using chemical weapons in Syria


BRUSSELS (AA) - Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen has stated Friday that he welcomes the clear US statement related to Assad regime using chemical weapons in Syria.


Rasmussen shared his messages through Twitter saying, "I welcome the clear US statement. It is urgent that Syria regime should let the UN investigate all reports of chemical weapons use."


Secretary General Rasmussen also stated that the NATO Patriots placed in Turkey would ensure effective protection of the country against any Syrian missile attack, chemical or not.


On Thursday, White House Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes made public that the intelligence community estimated, 100 to 150 people have died from detected chemical weapons attacks in Syria to date.


Turkish MFA Spokesman said, US statement on chemical use in Syria was clear enough


Turkey's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Levent Gumrukcu stated Friday, the US statement was clear enough to not to leave any doubts over the use of chemical weapons in Syria which also tallied with the current findings of Turkish authorities.


Gumrukcu replied to a question over the use of chemical weapons in Syria and said, the war in Syria took on another dimension with the claims of chemical weapon use.


He said, these claims were worrying the international community and added that various countries including Turkey investigated the topic punctiliously. "The US statement about the issue is clear enough to not to leave any doubts over the regime using chemical weapons in Syria. This result tallies with the current findings of Turkish authorities", said the Spokesman.


He said, the war which was applied towards their own people by the Syrian regime using war planes, ballistic missiles and every kind of heavy weapons, caused the death of tens of thousands of people.


He underscored that the show up of chemical weapons being used in Syria was a threat to the world peace and it showed the cruelty of the Syrian regime.
