U.S. President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron are making new claims that chemical weapons have been used by the Assad government in Aleppo. Obama is using these claims to increase U.S. involvement in the armed conflict in Syria on behalf of the genocidal Islamic extremists of the so-called “Free Syria Army”. While these are new specific accusations by Obama and Cameron, the two have repeatedly made the same unsubstantiated accusation in the past.
Investigating past allegations, a United Nations independent commission of inquiry on Syria found no evidence of the use of sarin gas by the Syrian government. They did, however, find evidence that the U.S. backed rebels used sarin gas. UN investigating commission member Carla Del Ponte stated on Swiss-Italian television:
“Our investigators have been in neighboring countries interviewing victims, doctors and field hospitals. According to their report of last week, which I have seen, there are strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof of the use of sarin gas, from the way the victims were treated. This was use on the part of the opposition, the rebels, not by the government authorities.”
Now Obama and Cameron are making the same unsubstantiated accusations against the Syrian government again. on Thursday, June 13th Obama used this accusation as an excuse to openly arm the Syrian Islamic extremist rebels. The U.S. had already long been giving the rebels “non-lethal” aid and arming them through its client states of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Qatar.
The People’s Republic of China is asking for an independent UN investigation of Obama and Cameron’s retreaded accusation.
Russia has bluntly pointed out that the Syrian government is making steady progress on the ground and has no need for chemical weapons. This is true. The U.S. backed rebels are rapidly losing ground. In rebel controlled territories the rebels have instituted sharia law and carried out genocide against religious minorities and carried out numerous atrocities against Kurds. This has no doubt eroded any popular support the U.S. backed rebels may have once enjoyed in Syria. In fact, large numbers of the rebels fighting in Syria are Sunni religious extremists recruited from other countries with the help of U.S. client states throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
The “revolution” in Syria closely resemble the U.S. funded “uprising” in Afghanistan that overthrew the pro-woman PDPA government. That holy war against women’s rights and literacy was waged with $8 billion in U.S. aid and an estimated 100,000 foreign fighters recruited with the help of the CIA and U.S. puppet regimes in the region. Among those foreign fighters in Afghanistan was Osama Bin Laden. So close is the resemblance, one of the brigades of the U.S. backed “Free Syria Army” is called the Osama bin Laden Brigade.
Yet, the so-called “International Socialist Organization” (ISO) supports the counter-revolutionary and genocidal Free Syria Army in Syria just as they backed the mujahideen in Afghanistan. Likewise, the ISO supported the imperialist sponsored counter-revolution in Libya that ethnically cleansed its Black African population. The ISO in its support of U.S. imperialist objectives ought to change its name to the State Department Socialists. Legitimate Trotskyists like us in the Revolutionary Tendency support the peoples of the world in their attempts to defend themselves from U.S. sponsored genocidal Islamic terrorists.
Just two days prior to Obama’s decision to arm the rebels, on Tuesday those same U.S. backed rebels carried out another sectarian massacre of civilians. The following is video of U.S. backed rebels celebrating their massacre of 60 Shiites, including civilians, in the Syrian town of Hatlah. Shiite houses were also burned and an additional 150 members of the Shiite minority were driven from their homes. As smoke rises in the background one of the rebels chants, “We have raised the banner of ‘There Is No God but God’ over the houses of the rejectionist Shiite apostates.”
