US, German policies on Russia are bankrupt: Wayne Madsen

American and German policies on Russia, in regard to the crisis in Ukraine, are bankrupt, says an investigative journalist in Tampa, Florida.

Wayne Madsen, author and columnist specializing in intelligence and international affairs, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Saturday.

In a telephone conversation on Friday, US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Russia’s latest actions are a "dangerous escalation" of the conflict in Ukraine. The two leaders condemned Russia for sending a humanitarian aid convoy into Ukraine without Kiev’s approval.

Commenting on this, Madsen said, “It’s obvious that the Obama administration is looking to increase sanctions on Russia from what they already have, which are having a devastating effect on farmers and fishermen in Western Europe, who are now embargoed from sending their products into Russia because it’s a retaliation against EU sanctions on Russia and companies and individuals.”

“So basically Obama and Merkel are trying to increase tensions. They are saying Russia has no right to send humanitarian supplies to the besieged people in eastern Ukraine, who are being starved just like the Israelis starved the people in Gaza,” he added.

“Basically, the authorities in Kiev and those in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem are no different; they are of the same religion and in many respects of the same Zionist ideology. And that’s what this is all about. It’s about treating eastern Ukraine just like Gaza,” Madsen noted.

“I think the fact is that Obama and Merkel and [British Prime Minister David] Cameron and the fascist regime in Kiev; their policies are bankrupt,” he concluded.

The US, its European allies and Russia are at loggerheads over Crimea, with Washington accusing Moscow of orchestrating an “illegitimate referendum to annex Crimea" and fuelling unrest in eastern Ukraine.

US officials claim that Russia has amassed 20,000 troops along the border with Ukraine. Washington also accuses Moscow of training and arming anti-Kiev fighters in eastern Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly rejected claims of a military buildup on the Ukrainian border and that Russian special forces are fomenting unrest in Ukraine.

According to a recent report published in the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, the US Central Intelligence Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation are helping the interim authorities in Kiev to end the crisis in eastern Ukraine.

The newspaper, citing unnamed German security sources, reported that dozens of CIA and FBI agents are involved in the offensive against the pro-Russian fighters.
